Built From One Family’s Search For Something Better

Alice’s Clubhouse exists because one family discovered how difficult it was to find meaningful, dementia-specific support that combined clinical care, dignity, structure, and community in one place.

Our program provides a safe, fun, and stimulating environment where individuals can receive personalized support, build meaningful connections, and enjoy daily socialization while allowing them to remain living at home and continue their familiar routines for as long as possible.

Our Story

Why Alice’s Clubhouse Exists

Every great mission begins with a personal moment. For Alice’s Clubhouse, it began with a family’s search for answers.

When David AvRutick’s mother, Alice, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, he and his father set out to find a day memory care program that would allow her to stay home while still receiving the connection and stimulation she deserved. What they discovered was a striking gap in the healthcare system. No meaningful options existed in South Carolina. Few existed anywhere in the country.

Rather than accept that gap, they decided to close it.

David connected with Diane Sancho, who had been working toward the same vision. Together, they built what so many families had been quietly searching for: a place where people living with memory loss could find joy and belonging, and where caregivers could find real relief.

That place is Alice’s Clubhouse, and it has been changing lives in the Lowcountry ever since.

We Can Help

Every program, every activity, every interaction at Alice’s Clubhouse is designed around one idea: that people with memory loss, and the people who care for them, deserve better. Here is how we help.

We can help with community.

Alice’s Clubhouse gives your loved one a place to belong: familiar faces, shared rituals, and real connection every single day.

We can help with early intervention.

The research is clear: structured programs slow the progression of dementia. The sooner your loved one joins, the more difference it makes.

We can help them look forward to the day.

A thoughtfully designed, fun, and stimulating daily program gives members something to anticipate, and gives caregivers the peace of knowing their person is thriving.

We can help with creative expression.

Art, music, and hands-on activities keep members engaged and give them a meaningful outlet that goes beyond sitting at home.

We can help with purposeful routine.

Consistent structure is clinically proven to support cognitive function. Every day at Alice’s Clubhouse is planned and intentional.

We can help with peace of mind.

Knowing your loved one is safe, engaged, and professionally cared for changes everything. That peace of mind is just part of what we provide.

Our Mission

MISSION

What We Believe

We believe that caregivers cannot pour from an empty cup. Supporting the person with memory loss means supporting the people who love them, too.

We believe in early intervention. The sooner a person with dementia joins our structured program, the slower the progression of their disease.

Starting early is not giving up. It is taking positive action and is the single most powerful thing a family can do.

WHAT SETS US APART

The Medical Model Difference

Most adult day programs are social programs. Alice’s Clubhouse is different.

As a medical-model day center, we operate with onsite nursing staff, clinical oversight, and a multidisciplinary care team, including access to physical, occupational, and speech therapies, podiatry, and other specialized services.

Our staff-to-member ratio of 1:6 or better, exceeding the state requirement of 1:8, reflects our commitment to individualized attention.

THE SPACE

A Place to Belong
